The Silver Zebra Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) like all Pterophyllum species, originate from the Amazon River Basin, Orinoco Basin, and various other smaller rivers in the Guiana Shield in South America. They are a member of the family Cichlidae (Cichlids) and are all collectively known to tropical fish keepingenthusiasts as Angelfish.

In their natural environment, Silver Zebra Angelfish live in swamps and flooded areas around dense vegetation in either clear or silty colored water.  They are usually found among bulrushes and around underwater brush where they can quickly dart to shelter.  They are a relatively peaceful, social species that are often found swimming in large shoals.

The silver Arowana is a freshwater fish found in South America. Adults are a pearly silver color while juveniles have a blue glint. They have very large scales and a huge downturned mouth.

Hasemania nana is a 2-inch (5 cm) schooling fish that hails from the rivers and streams of Brazil. What sets it apart from your typical South American nano tetra is its high activity level. During mealtimes, you will see them swarm together in a feeding frenzy reminiscent of their larger neighbor, the piranha.  Their bold, outgoing nature is one of the many reasons they are among the most popular fish sold at Aquarium Co-Op.

Adult males deepen into a coppery-orange color, whereas adult females and juveniles have a translucent, lemon-yellow hue. Their common name comes from the white tips on their fins, and their forked tail has a short, black stripe in the middle. Most silver tip tetras in the aquarium trade are captive-bred at fish farms, and they have developed an albino version for sale as well.

This highly coveted angelfish variety develops a striking bright SILVER WITH BLACK mark across the body as it matures!

The Smokey green Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare), is an incredible variant that naturally displays silver coloration over the classic "leopard" striping that is characteristic of the wild coloration. Juveniles often do not display much of the black stripes coloration, but will develop it generously as they grow and approach maturity. This shoaling cichlid is relatively peaceful compared to other members of the cichlid family. It also has a very thin, tall body unlike most other cichlids. The smokey green Angelfish is indigenous to several river in Northern South America, but virtually all specimens in the aquarium hobby have been tank-raised for generations. 

The smokey green Angelfish will thrive in a heavily planted aquarium with driftwood and/or rock formations and gentle water flow. It is not overly reclusive, but this fish strongly prefers the cover of plants and, due to its body shape, is not likely to seek refuge in rock caves and similar structures. It is generally compatible with other peaceful fish as long as it has plenty of space. Territoriality is typically at its peak during spawning. Dwarf shrimp and other small, delicate invertebrates should not be kept with the leopard Angelfish, but more durable, larger shrimp and snails could possibly make good tank mates in a large enough aquarium. If spawning is desired, tank mates of other species should be kept to a minimum or avoided altogether unless the aquarium is very spacious.

Feeding is simple for the unfussy smokey green. High-quality dry, frozen, and live foods will all be readily accepted. Quality and variety are the keys to a diet that will ensure that this fish maintains optimal health and coloration.

The Snow Leopard Discus, also known as Symphysodon sp. 'Snow Leopard,' is a captivating variant of the popular discus fish species. This discus variety stands out due to its striking snow leopard-like pattern, which features a base coloration ranging from light beige to pale yellow or cream. The dark spots, resembling leopard spots, adorn its body, creating a mesmerizing contrast. These spots are irregular in shape and vary in size and density, with some individuals displaying more spots than others.

The Snow Leopard Discus grows to a size of approximately 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters) in diameter when fully mature. Like other discus fish, they require stable and well-maintained aquarium conditions. It is recommended to keep them in a species-specific tank or a community tank with compatible, non-aggressive fish species. Providing ample hiding places and spaces for exploration is important. They may exhibit breeding behaviors, such as cleaning and defending a chosen spawning site.

Maintaining specific water parameters is crucial for the health of Snow Leopard Discus. They thrive in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a temperature range typically between 82 to 86°F (28 to 30°C). Regular water changes and consistent water quality are essential.

Snow Leopard Discus are omnivorous and benefit from a varied diet. High-quality flakes, pellets, and granules designed for discus fish can be provided. Additionally, incorporating frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia is recommended to provide necessary protein and nutrients. A diverse diet enhances their coloration and overall health.
