Angelfish

The Silver Zebra Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) like all Pterophyllum species, originate from the Amazon River Basin, Orinoco Basin, and various other smaller rivers in the Guiana Shield in South America. They are a member of the family Cichlidae (Cichlids) and are all collectively known to tropical fish keepingenthusiasts as Angelfish.

In their natural environment, Silver Zebra Angelfish live in swamps and flooded areas around dense vegetation in either clear or silty colored water.  They are usually found among bulrushes and around underwater brush where they can quickly dart to shelter.  They are a relatively peaceful, social species that are often found swimming in large shoals.

The Platinum Angelfish is bred for its solid white colors.

Platinum Angelfish prefer a well planted aquarium with rocks and driftwood. They need plenty of room to swim so they should be housed in a 30 gallon aquarium or larger. The water in the aquarium should be slightly acidic.

The Platinum Angelfish feeds on a variety of foods including vegetables, as well as meaty foods. A quality flake food should be fed along with live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms.

The Smokey green Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare), is an incredible variant that naturally displays silver coloration over the classic "leopard" striping that is characteristic of the wild coloration. Juveniles often do not display much of the black stripes coloration, but will develop it generously as they grow and approach maturity. This shoaling cichlid is relatively peaceful compared to other members of the cichlid family. It also has a very thin, tall body unlike most other cichlids. The smokey green Angelfish is indigenous to several river in Northern South America, but virtually all specimens in the aquarium hobby have been tank-raised for generations. 

The smokey green Angelfish will thrive in a heavily planted aquarium with driftwood and/or rock formations and gentle water flow. It is not overly reclusive, but this fish strongly prefers the cover of plants and, due to its body shape, is not likely to seek refuge in rock caves and similar structures. It is generally compatible with other peaceful fish as long as it has plenty of space. Territoriality is typically at its peak during spawning. Dwarf shrimp and other small, delicate invertebrates should not be kept with the leopard Angelfish, but more durable, larger shrimp and snails could possibly make good tank mates in a large enough aquarium. If spawning is desired, tank mates of other species should be kept to a minimum or avoided altogether unless the aquarium is very spacious.

Feeding is simple for the unfussy smokey green. High-quality dry, frozen, and live foods will all be readily accepted. Quality and variety are the keys to a diet that will ensure that this fish maintains optimal health and coloration.

The most sought after of all the freshwater angels, the Altum or High Back Angel comes from the acidic Blackwater reaches of the Orinoco River in Colombia and Venezuela. These beautiful but delicate fish require warm, soft water and excellent water quality to thrive. Best kept in groups of 5 or more and we recommended after so many years breeding and learning about altum. The Altum Angel is an unmistakable show fish ideal for a large display aquarium. Our special Altum Angels are Orinoco F1 and bred in our farm in Vietnam. We imported and conditioned carefully in US city water before being shipped, allowing us to offer only high quality, healthy, and beautiful fish to our customers. This king of angelfish will reach a maximum size of 10-12in tall. Altums do extremely well with Discus and they will be the highlight of your aquarium. There are few size you can choose from. The total body length is about 3 - 3.5+ inches from mouth to end tail.  6.5-7 inches from vertically.

The Dark Marbled Angelfish is a very popular tropical fish because of its unique shape and because of their interesting personalities. Freshwater angelfish are aggressive eaters and will go to the top of the tank when they see you approach. Because of their aggressive feeding habits, make sure that your less aggressive fish are getting their share around feeding time.

Angel fish are curious about their environment and can become very territorial, especially around breeding time. They will pair off and if any other fish tries to enter their territory they will go after them. So use caution when stocking.Freshwater Angelfish are not picky eaters.
