The Blue Acara (Andinoacara pulcher) is a vibrant freshwater cichlid native to Venezuela, inhabiting a range of environments from stagnant waters to flowing streams. Growing up to 16 cm, this species features a stocky, compact body adorned with a steel blue-gray hue. Distinct horizontal green lines mark its face, while its blue-green scales shimmer, reflecting its Latin species name "pulcher," meaning beautiful. Commonly sold in aquarium stores, the Blue Acara is often mistaken for the larger Green Terror but stands out with its unique coloration and manageable size, making it ideal for experienced aquarists.
King Kong Parrots—also called Ingot Cichlids—are stunning hybrid freshwater fish first developed in Taiwan around 1986. Likely descended from Redhead and Midas Cichlids, these fish boast distinctive rounded bodies and vibrant coloration that make them aquarium favorites. While they're not found in nature, their unique appearance and engaging temperament make them a standout choice for dedicated aquarists willing to provide the space and care they deserve.
The Tiger Oscar is a very popular black and red-orange variant of the classic Tiger Oscar.
The Tiger Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus), also known as the Marble Cichlid or Velvet Cichlid, is a large South American cichlid species that needs little to no introduction. It is one of the most popular and beloved fish in the entire aquarium hobby, and with good reason. It has beautiful markings, is extremely hardy and unfussy in every way, and is easily a centerpiece fish in any large aquarium. It grows to a substantial, but manageable size and is one of the most interactive fish when it comes to paying attention to its keeper.
Our Peacock are about of 2" - 5". The Yellow OB Peacock Cichlid is a hybrid from the Aulonocara Species (Peacock Cichlid) from Lake Malawi. Peacock Cichlids are generally found living where the rocky shoreline transitions into the more sandy substrate of the lake bottom. Yellow OB Peacocks feed by sifting through sand substrate by pushing the sand through their gills and extracting small invertebrates hidden in the sand.
However, they are also active hunters that will also actively prey on small prey items that it detects moving about the substrate or if it spots movement in the sand. Like most species of African Cichlid the Yellow OB Peacock lives in small groups of a single male and a small group of females. They will lay claim to a small piece of territory that provides them adequate feeding opportunities. Once they have established their territory they will aggressively defend it from similarly sized and patterned fish species or anything that they determine to be competition for food.
The Albino Tiger Oscar is a very popular white and red-orange variant of the classic Tiger Oscar.
The Albino Tiger Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus), also known as the Marble Cichlid or Velvet Cichlid, is a large South American cichlid species that needs little to no introduction.
The Albino Tiger Oscar will thrive in a large aquarium with a sand or gravel substrate and sturdy decor as well as plenty of open swimming space. It does consume some plant matter, so artificial plants are a better choice for decor than live plants (if plants are used at all). Like many cichlids, this species is known to sometimes rearrange decor to its liking, so it is necessary to avoid "avalanches" of decorative stones and driftwood. The Albino Tiger Oscar is considerably less aggressive than most other medium and large cichlids, but it does have a voracious appetite and will eat any fish or invertebrate that will fit (or nearly fit) in its mouth. Territoriality is typically at its peak during spawning. Due to the eventual adult size of the Albino Tiger Oscar, it should not be kept with ornamental invertebrates. If spawning is desired, tankmates of other species should be avoided altogether. It should also be noted that the Albino Tiger Oscar is typically most peaceful with tankmates when it is grown up with them from juve
The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey (Rocio octofasciata "Electric Blue"), also known as the Powder Blue Jack Dempsey, is an almost unbelievably bright blue color variant of its species. For a time, it was believed to possibly be a hybrid of the Jack Dempsey Cichlid and another New World cichlid species, but the current general consensus is that it is a natural color mutation that was isolated and developed within the original species. This variant is relatively new to the hobby, but it has now been selectively cultivated long enough to produce much healthier, consistent offspring than those that existed in the early years of development. The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey is typically more docile and attains a smaller size than "wild color" individuals of the species.
The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Cichlid will thrive in an aquarium with a sandy substrate and plenty of refuge such as clay pots, driftwood, and rock formations. It typically will not eat ornamental plants, but it does like to do a fair amount of digging, so plants that attach to driftwood and rockwork are recommended. As mentioned before, this color variant is typically not nearly as aggressive as the typical "wild color" Jack Dempsey, so it is often compatible with other peaceful and semi-aggressive fish too large to be considered prey. Territoriality is typically at its peak during spawning. Dwarf shrimp and other small, delicate invertebrates should not be kept with the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Cichlid. This fish can attain a considerable size of up to 8 inches (20 cm), so most ornamental invertebrates will eventually be considered prey. If spawning is desired, tankmates of other species should be kept to a minimum or avoided altogether.
